A strong union keeps your workplace safe. Government safety agencies like OSHA are often underfunded and overstretched. That’s why UFCW 1776 holds employers accountable to maintain strict safety standards—through enforceable contract language and on-the-ground safety monitors.

    •  Stronger safety regulations that go beyond government requirements
    • Union stewards and safety committees that ensure compliance
    • The power to report and address hazards—without fear of retaliation

Fact: Safe jobs save lives. When workers speak up together, companies listen—and workplaces become safer for everyone.

  • Job Security

With a union, you don’t have to stand alone. A union contract protects your job by ensuring fair treatment and a clear process to resolve workplace disputes.

Without a union, an employer can make decisions based on favoritism, personal bias, or profit—leaving workers vulnerable to unfair discipline, wrongful termination, or inconsistent treatment. With UFCW Local 1776, you have a legally binding contract that safeguards your rights and a grievance procedure to challenge unfair actions.

    How the Grievance Process Works

    1. Speak with a Union Representative
      • If you believe your rights under the union contract have been violated, the first step is to discuss the matter with a union representative. If the union determines that a contract violation may have occurred, an attempt will be made to resolve the issue with your employer directly.
    2. Escalation to a Formal Discussion
      • If the issue is not resolved informally, a meeting or phone conference will be held between the union and the employer in a further attempt to find a fair resolution.
    3. Final Step: Arbitration
      • If no agreement is reached, the grievance may proceed to arbitration. This means a neutral third-party arbitrator hears arguments from both the union and the employer, then delivers a binding decision that both sides must follow.

This process ensures due process, fairness, and accountability—so workers are not at the mercy of unfair treatment.

Fact: Union members are significantly less likely to face unjust termination because they have a contract that protects them, while non-union workers are often employed at-will, meaning they can be fired at any time without cause.
